With regret, we have to inform you that with immediate effect Barking Baptist Church will be suspending all meetings for worship and social gatherings until further notice following prayerful consideration of the new advice from the Government, Public Health England and the Baptist Union with regards to the Coronavirus Pandemic. We are doing this is in order to protect our congregation members – many of whom fall into the ‘Most at Risk’ category – and also their families and friends. This comes into effect as of the 18th March.

To our church family who lose access to our place of worship, and for those in our local community to lose a place of meeting, connection and familiarity may well feel very difficult

It is true that BBC life will need to be done differently for a while, with the shape and nature of ‘being church’ having to reflect the new normal. It is also to remind us as God’s people that we are not just church when we are gathered, but we are also God’s people when we are separated, when we are scattered. We are followers of Jesus in all situations, every day, and we are called to be ‘salt and light’ in every situation and none so important as now.

We often say that ‘we don’t GO to church’, but rather that ‘we ARE the church’. Although we can’t gather together just now, we at BBC will use other means and discover new ways to stay in touch and encourage one another.

We hope, soon, to be able to live stream some form of service each Sunday. It may well be shorter than usual but will allow us in one form to still be together in our separate locations.  More details will follow.

As we are likely to have more time to reflect, keeping in our homes as much as possible, this will be an opportunity for us to be still and to pray, to turn to God, and to seek His counsel and receive His encouragement.

At this time of uncertainty and anxiety please read and absorb these words from Psalm 91:

Whoever goes to the LORD for safety,
whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty,
can say to him,
“You are my defender and protector.
You are my God; in you I trust.”
He will keep you safe from all hidden dangers
and from all deadly diseases.
He will cover you with his wings;
you will be safe in his care;
his faithfulness will protect and defend you.

We know that in the next few weeks our lives will change but please do follow the guidance and advice we are being given, and encourage others, with love, patience, kindness, and wisdom, to do the same. At this time, please can we not help the spread misinformation, rumour and fear.  Below is the best site currently for information regarding how to deal with COVID 19.  Many people are anxious enough, let us be the calming voices at this time.
