Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

God trusts you… just let that sink in for a moment. Yes, you, God trusts you!

Today, as I started the morning with its brilliant sunshine and lovely refreshing breeze, I was struck again by a thought that comes to me every so often, usually when I begin to question myself, my worth or what I am here on this earth to do. Now you may think that this is not what you would expect to hear from a Pastor but these times of ‘new normal’ have reshaped aspects of life for me, as I am sure they have for you too.

I am part of a group of local Baptist ministers called the North East District, catchy title I know!   Before COVID 19 lockdown we would meet together to share how we are as ministers etc, now we use technology to have online meetings, it was at the last online meeting that I confessed to feeling slightly out of sorts. As a Pastor a lot of my role is to see people face to face, be they within the church group or part of the wider community. I spend time with people listening, talking, sharing, maybe laughing, sometimes crying. The main point is that I am present with people, and now that aspect of my function, even for a short while, has gone. And so I feel like part of my identity has gone too! Part of what it is to minister to CHBC, and the wider community, has been pulled from me so I feel a little lost sometimes.

And as this thought shot through my head today this verse came to mind followed by the word TRUST. You see, God who created all that was, is, and ever will be chose to work through his church – You, me and all the Christians world-wide and through time. He did not need to; he could have made everything the way He wants in an instant, He could do anything and everything He chooses ‘at the drop of a hat’… but He CHOOSES to work through us.

And that is an incredible thought. And it’s not just the big evangelists, the famous Pastors, the incredible youth ministry leaders, the awesome missionaries that are trusted with God’s work… it is all of us, every single Christian is entrusted with the gospel message and the responsibility to share it… and we have been given all the tools, the power and the opportunity to. God is holding nothing back for us. He even says “you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth”

And this is true when we can visit people, when we can meet together, when we can go to shops when we chose. BUT it is also true now, and God reminded me of that. Who he asks me to be, what He asks me to do IS NOT dependant on circumstance or situation, it is only dependant on trusting that God trusts me and owning that truth. If God thinks we can do it, who are we to argue. Trust is a beautiful thing.
